The Counterpointe studio is located on the second floor of the School of Art Building, Christchurch Arts Centre.
As a specialist classical ballet school, we value heritage: the heritage of our art form; the heritage of our teachers; and the heritage of our building.
Since its beginnings in 1873, the historical Arts Centre site has been Christchurch’s home of higher level creative research and learning. Initially home to Canterbury University and a number of secondary schools, the Arts Centre as we know it was established as a charitable trust in 1978.
Our Counterpointe studio is situated in the building that was for many years home to the School of Fine (University of Canterbury). UC Fine Arts produced such renowned artists as Rita Angus, Rata Lovell-Smith, Olivia Spencer Bowen, and William Sutton.
The studio is available for hire and has sprung flooring, tarkett ballet floor, fixed ballet barres, sound system and Yamaha Piano. Email counterpointe2023@gmail.com for hire information.
